  • Brilliant metaphor for the rat race of the American dream

This movie really hit me hard! I saw it as a brilliant metaphor for the rat race that is the American dream. We're all participants drafted into the race and even if it seems counter intuitive, you're bettrr off if you work together instead of working on your own or sabotaging others (intentionally or not). Even the innocent who don't want to play by the rules get corrupted and the only way to win is by losing yourself and leaving everyone else dead in your wake. When you find success, you find it wasn't worth it and you're all alone. I loved the juxtaposition of the atrocity we were seeing unfold with the natural beauty of what seems to be an impoverished rust belt of America. Brilliant acting; brilliant directing; brilliant story!

  • What a wild roller coaster ride!

I entered the movie knowing nothing about the movie. I barely even knew the name! All I knew was that my buddy told me he heard good things about so we made plans to see it.

WOW!!!!! What a roller coaster ride! Some may criticize the plot as too chaotic but considering that chaos is a major theme for the movie, I find it most appropriate. I loved the creativity, the editing, the characters, the plot, and the philosophy at the core of the film.

It has the laughs, the action, the drama and weaves through emotions seamlessly.

    10/10 GO WATCH THIS!!

  • A movie about family skinned in a Colombia theme

As a Colombian-American, I was disappointed with the film. It's still quite good but I was hoping for something similar to Moana or Coco; I was hoping to finally get a Hollywood film that truly explored what it meant to be Colombian. Sure, we have Narcos, but that's the problem. The only films about Colombia are drug/violence related.

There was so much potential here, especially for an animated film. Colombia is the home of magical realism! They could have explained the magic by delving into this concept. Instead, they just kept the generic magic theme.

I came in wanting a film that delved into Colombian culture and the personality of its people. Instead, I got a touching family story peppered with Colombian references like ajiaco, coffee, and that Colombian look. To be fair, family and community is very important in Colombia, but one could say the same anywhere. The theme wasn't as distinguished as the día de los muertos theme in Coco or the heart of the sea in Moana.

    That said: worth watching.
