Another Round is a wonderful movie about mid-life crisis and the need of letting go of boundaries.
Thomas Vinterberg has done an excellent job portraying on screen; the need of people to act free. The need to let go of responsibilities and act as they wish.
The movies centers around four High School teachers, examining the effects of alcohol consuming on their professional and social lives. At first, the four friends agree to consume a certain amount of alcohol a day. Only to slowly slide into a cycle of over-consuming and drinking. Affecting their lives for the worst.
Although some may watch this film and think it's a story about Alcohol consuming, told in a humorous way and full of heart. But the way I saw it, it's a story of a man wanting to relive again, feel the need to break free of "social regulations" and standards.
In the case of the film, that man is Mads Mikkelsen's character Martin. A middle-aged high school teacher going through a mid-life crisis, his relationship with his wife is a bit wavering, his kids are not interested in him, his students don't appreciate him much. Upon hearing his friend Nikolaj talk about the experiment on alcohol and how it could have a positive effect. Martin decides to let go and start "daring"; taking upon decisions his normal self wouldn't have taken otherwise.
In a way, the experiment the teachers are having with the use of alcohol benefiting their lives. Is more of a way for Martin to express his desire to relive again. Feel just like his students at the start of the film: careless, joyful, just desiring another round.
