Chompcrc here. I understand that they had a show to make. But they need to understand that they had a story to tell. They made a show. If it weren't about Gein, it would've been a great show. The problem is, the core audience goes into this expecting a series about the life of Ed Gein. There are so many falsehoods in this, that it completely takes you out of the show. Let's do the breakdown. The good: Charlie Hunnam is great in the lead role. He didn't get the voice right, but I think he got the mannerisms and overall gate of Gein down pat. I like that they respected Gein enough to not turn him into an all out slasher. They showed that he became the inspiration for the modern slasher, which is both ironic, and culturally important. His influence has been felt on so many levels, on such a broad scale, That we don't fully realize or understand. I appreciate that although he is the villain of this story, they didn't vilify him in the same manner as Ted Bundy, who is an absolute monster. Gein is more of a victim of his own mind than anything else. Even though he is the bad guy he is also a victim in his story. The setting is great for horror, the film looks really good. I love that they tied in Psycho, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Silence of the Lambs. It seems like the people that made this really tried to give it the respect that it deserved. And that's where the bad comes in. See my next review.
It's surprising that they took so many artistic liberties. The girlfriend character did not need to exist as it was all made up. Everything about the babysitter was made up. He had nothing to do with the two hunters that went missing. The German chick was only someone he was interested in because of the skin stuff. He never spoke to her or the transvestite. Gein did not have relations with dead bodies. He was not a cannibal. He was never in a relationship with any of his victims. And for the love of all that is holy, he did not want to be a woman. You can tell his story without adding so much fluff. His story deserves to be told as it happened. The mental illness and psychopathy needs to be explored. The influence of the overbearing and domineering matriarch needs to be explored. The possibility that a person can commit the most horrible crimes in the world, and be a victim themselves, needs to be explored. His story is good without adding extra fluff for the sake of making a story. His story is already interesting and entertaining and heartbreaking and devastating and horrible and scary and terrifying and timely. The unclean? It's pretty unclean. It's horrific in nature, both visually and verbally. There is nudity, necrophilia, gore, and all manners of disturbing content. Personally, I believe that there should not have been any sexual relations depicted in the film whatsoever, because he simply was not a sexual person. The shame and embarrassment that he was made to feel his entire life over the matter damaged him in ways that we can't comprehend. You don't need to pile on the depravity to make his story shocking, but for some reason they felt to do that. Overall, I say watch it if what I said sounds like something that you would enjoy. If you wanna watch a movie about his life, though, There have been others made that are far more accurate. The problem with the older films is, though, they don't explore the psychopathy like this film does. The social and cultural importance of Ed Gein is on display here, and the irony of his existence, through the admiration of other serial killers, was a nice touch. I'm still waiting. I'm still waiting for the Ed Gein story though. I guess I'll have to make it myself.

#chompcrc here. This is the best movie I've seen in quite some time. George Miller is an absolute genius behind the camera. Everyone that he surrounds himself with are top notch. The writing is amazing. The acting is phenomenal. Chris Hemsworth is the best and most memorable villain since Heath Ledger's Joker. He deserves an Oscar for this one. I had no idea he could do this. The layers that unfold like a slowly rotting onion are a master class in filmmaking. There is so much being said about society, the human condition, and our willingness to pursue vengeance despite ourselves. The way the story unfolds is so fulfilling. I love that they spent time with Furiosa as a child instead of jumping right into her as a young adult. Seeing this makes her arc in Fury Road all the more tragic and satisfying at the same time. You must watch this in the theater. It deserves to be watched on the big screen. I cannot praise this film enough. I haven't seen anything this entertaining, exiting, epic, masterful, or downright amazing in so long that I can't even compare it to anything except for Fury Road. The difference is, that is the greatest action film of all time, and this is one of the greatest films of all time, while also being an action film. There's even a quick little cameo of Mad Max. Run to the theater and watch this.
Chompcrc again. This movie is everything right about independent cinema. It has good dialogue, better than average acting, a unique storyline, and likable characters. The problem that I have with it is the film's structure. It uses time jumps to fill the narrative, and the ending is not typical or fulfilling. I was entertained throughout, and I like the overall feel of it. I dig the drive-in theatre setting, and love the John McClane costume. The two female leads are gorgeous and good at what they do. I couldn't decide which one I liked more. The two male leads did what they should of done for the most part, and carried the film nicely. The Jehovah's Witnesses angle was an afterthought, and should have been fleshed out more, but overall, I say it's a win for horror comedy. The good: the chicks are great, you have no idea where the story is going, and the characters are likable. The bad: too much time is spent in the past, whereas more time should have been spent making the present more coherent. The unclean: too much bj and masturbation talk. Overall, I say good job though, and I really hope this gang gets together and makes something else real soon.
