Such a gem this little, funny action movie! Great pace, great theme song, and three actors that are worth the watch by themselves alone: a young Evans, the underrated Kim Basinger, and the usual delight offered by William H. Macy.
6.5 in my book for a lighthearted, entertaining watch. Nokia nostalgia all over the place.

Watched it by chance on the TV and it was such a pleasent surprise. Outside the US it's barely known by anybody and I had never heard about it. It's a shame.
Get on up features top-notch direction, acting, music (of course) and editing.
Keeping it short:
Boseman is unbelievably good. Like, you won't believe your eyes. He deserved the Academy Award.
The editing is apparently the reason for most of the negative reviews, but it's actually a very positive feature: Brown was an over the top persona with seemingly no strong arc throughout his life. Well, I can't imagine anything more perfect than this editing, jumping freely from time to time, to tell the story of this exuberant and relentless character, who didn't change much through the decades.

This prequel is just an excuse to rehash The Thing for the modern market. It's a tipical action monster movie, with a mediocre script, bad dialogues, and awful charachters. The CGI doesn't help. Prop design, photography and colors are terrible, because they're crystal clear: the exact opposite of these features from the first movie. They should've at least tried to recreate a similar atmosphere for a story that happens literally just hours before The Thing.
