  • Hostage situations....for real!!!

I am becoming quite the fan of Dutch movies of the sort.

Golden hour was the series that sort of started it all and it was a seminar of pace, actions scenes and suspense.

This one has the added bonus of being based on true events.

This very fact makes it more gripping and realistic from the get go.

It does not have to adhere to any preconceived narrative or flow. The true events create the narrative themselves. That said all the actors do a fine job and everything is rendered with due care and diligence.

I believe that anyone who chooses to spend almost two hours watching it will not be disappointed.

    After all,it is,more or less,what happened.

  • Brilliant war epic

All in all a brilliant war epic and a totally gratifying 2 hour plus experience.

Fantastic depiction of the bleak situation in Stalingrad, fantastic music, fantastic sniper scenes, great acting.

It might be a little bit flawed in the depiction of the Russian idiosyncracy,as all Western depictions unavoidably are because they are addressing western audiences.

Nevertheless the cat and mouse game between Zaitchev and his German counterpart are nothing short of outstanding and engaging.

It is touching, too, watching all the future acting stars at their, more or less, beginnings. Very appetizing appearances. The elder statesmen,as Ed Harris, are brilliant as usual.

    Highly recommended!!!

  • Really satisfying for the season!!!!

Before one sits down to watch a Christmas holiday adventure feature, one has to ask what one is set expect from such a movie.

Does he want likeable, relatable people on the good side, portrayed with adequacy by all actors?

    This movie has them.

Does it want an interesting story with an "impeccably" organised terrorist group. Ditto!!

Do you want a great bad guy, a "one of us guy", who nevertheless is "psychopathic" enough do kill anybody at a second's notice and who possesses contingency plans for anything?

Justin Bateman does a great job on that.

Do you finally want great,non- stop suspenseful action, with constant twists and turns. You also got that with well directed action to top i!!

Surely recommended for the period. Not a " Die-Hard" for the 20s but really fine!!
