The movie really seems to divide people, personally I loved it. It's visually a treat.
A good deal of the dialogue is Mc Brides internal conversation which really adds to the sense of isolation as well as immense distance in a huge universe. Yes, even I a layman, noticed some impossible physics, but I think that's covered, after all it's called science fiction.
Probably the last part of the film doesn't seem to belong, and the father/son relationship didn't feel altogether authentic. I must admit the explosion propelled flight home was a little icky.
Suspend your disbelief and enjoy the ride
Think 'Heart of Darkness' in space.

I saw that this was on my watch list and that I'd watched half of it some time ago. I couldn't remember why I had abandoned it. Today I found out. It's pretty awful in all aspects. It's trying very hard to be both arty and meaningful. The acting was wooden and sub amateur. There was tech on display to denote future: a kind of man/robot thing wearing a poncho and welding goggles; a miniature mechanical spider thing that I think was clockwork. Personal video communication devices, which were clearly magnifying glasses worn (tied)around the neck. Still not sure about the story. Scored 3 for the effort.
I generally don't like films set in one scene, though I was recently very impressed with 'Locke'. This movie blew my socks off. It was engaging, intense and racked up the tension nicely. Quite a straightforward story, it didn't try to be clever and twisty, nor did it use bewildering CGI, it just unfolded at a nice pace. It was also nice to look at. I highly recommend.
