  • No wit, no fun, cheesy, bad acting, no need to be redone

Everything that made the original starring Arnold & Co. Fun and easy going made this a horrendous, cheesy slog to watch. Glen Powell, normally reliable, seems to be in 'acting' mode the entire film. Everything was contrived and you could feel the director in every scene. "Ben" - have an unprovoked anger moment even though the interviewer behind the glass doesn't say anything to really get anyone mad to show that you have an anger management and hostility problem!

Then come the introduction of the players with zero feeling of natural moments. Walk into a large busy area. Feels like director tells the strong looking woman to approach and who just asks him a question out of the blue - to which this angry guy responds in a friendly fashion. Same goes with the next character getting weird in the elevator.

This is looks and feels like a green screen cutout put together for manufactured film. Nothing inspired. Full autopilot. There was no need to remake the original and, if you're going to do it, at least make a damn effort instead of phoning it in with a mechanical by the numbers motion and picking up your paycheck. Waste of time. Watch the original. Have some laughs. See a fantastic Richard Dawson, amusing Arnie, and much more credible cast of characters who don't feel like soulless AI generated scripts.

  • Too long, shallow, ratings based on political leanings

This is not a great movie at all. But it does present illegal immigration, black revolution, and the white people who help them as all being righteous, justifiable and likeable. This is even the case where these revolutionaries hurt innocent people, who fade away into the background because their lives are irrelevant, just as is any exploration into the issues surrounding this strong message. Authorities are all evil, white, racist men.

I'm no conservative but became quickly bored to tears by the very long opening which tells you nothing about why the revolution is taking place. You just need to accept that illegal immigration is good, authorities trying to uphold the law are terrible people. And the story only gets going when one of them gets caught. Of course, this person isn't 'bad' per se, but the way out of it involves even more ugliness and a twist that makes no sense whatsoever other than to show how evil old white men are.

Care about the characters? There wasn't much reason except if you're a true leftist and these are the people fighting the above good fight because... well... that's good. Read the reviews here that keep stating how important this film is for our times. Why? Because it paints the military, ICE and authority figures as twisted white supremacists? This is a completely self-indulgent film that engages into comedy which was somewhat funny in the same vein as every other "stoned out of his mind" film goes, saying nothing new. The farfetched convenient ending is completely predictable and, while satisfying in its comeuppance it is by no means brilliant in any way. Gorgeous landscapes and great acting doesn't make for a great film. It's overlong and slightly better than average - and completely shallow.

  • 2 Stars for Bautista, but why?

Every once in awhile you wonder why an actor who has superb resume does a film. Favor to a friend? Exchange to withhold naughty photos from being released? Somehow honestly misjudging the nature of who is involved in the production? This is such a truly terrible film that I just wanted to let everyone know how terrible it really is, right from the start. The style of the opening credits is cartoonish, like cheap TV. And then there is Samuel L. Jackson. His acting is far better in his commercials. Here, it's laughably terrible in the short few moments he has.

This film looks like one big fake set. The cinematography is so noticeably bad that you notice it. The dialogue is laughably bad. On second thought, this really should be given a one as it is that terrible. Yet another mindless apocalypse film.
