This is a movie-length Seinfeld episode, except every main guy is George (Larry David). Every woman is either Susan or George's mother. It's funny when George/Larry is the only character like that, but not when he takes over the entire movie. I can't say I didn't laugh a couple of times (mostly towards the end), but it was rather tedious.
The Police Academy movies up to this point aren't great, but they have their moments. But this one is a real stinker. Not only is it not funny, most of it is boring. Lengthy scenes of them walking around airports and checking in to hotels aren't really interesting, even if there is occasional slapstick humor. Also, the lack of Guttenberg, Bobcat, and Tim Kazurinsky is noticeable. They try to fill the gap with Matt McCoy but he can't do anything with the lack of material. Janet Jones is his love interest who barely says anything the whole movie. The only positive thing I can say is it's only about 90 min. If this were 2+ hours it would be a painful sit.
Well it's better than the second one. About as good as the first. But by this point, you ought to know what to expect from a Police Academy movie. A few characters from the second one are back as new recruits - most notably Tim Kazurinsky and Bobcat Goldthwait. Rather oddly, a few caricatures are back from the first one - the housewife, the rich guy, the attractive blonde. They don't work any better here than they did there, and will be gone from the series again after this. Mauser is back from the 2nd one as the main nemesis and he's alright but not as good as Harris. Bobcat (as Zed) carries a lot of this movie as what I think is the most entertaining character. But otherwise it's just the same goofy slapstick characters you've seen before and will see again in the other sequels (if you are willing to watch that far).
