I can understand the negative reviews of this movie, as it is a simple movie, and yet does not explain everything as plain as we are used to in simple movies like this.
Some people said it's unclear why Del Toros character killed these people. Actually it's unclear if he did anything at all. Yes he is troubled by what he did. But the 2 Hunters were not after deers, so it could be traps of the government all the time, which would make del Toro the good guy in most other action movies... So Del Toros character is not a all bad guy, but just being in a bad situation, but he's in too deep, and too troubled to get out.
Like I said, the story is simple, and there will be no surprises. A government killer goes out of control and he is hunted. For me that works really fine. It's a macho movie, where one hunts the other hand by hand. And yes I like those lone super trained guy gets the job done movies. I think the movie has a good pace and is a fun ride. The movie tries to bring over the knife fights as realistic as it can get in a action movie I guess, and I really like the style. It's kinda like Bourne but without the fast cuts so you actually see what the actors are doing, and what they do is surprisingly good.
Sure the movie has it flaws, the knife forging scene fore one and some other stuff, but it has not as many holes as some stated.
So if you want a nice action movie with knives instead of explosion? watch it. If you like a movie who wins the Oscar for storytelling... don't.

Ever wondered what would have been possible if not Keanu did the Kung Fu stuff in Matrix but real Martial Artist? The One is the answer to that. ok, it's not as stylish as the Matrix. And sure the story has one or two holes :). But the acting is quite fine for a Martial Arts movie, The action is cool.... this movie is Fun!
I admit it, I only went because Michelle and Milla were in this movie. Everybody knows that Computergame-Movies sucks (Mortal Combat, Streetfighter, Wing Commander...) STOP this just now has been changed. This movie is cool. The 2 women surely did an excellent job, and are realy cool when they are kicking some butts, but also the supporting cast was excellent (especialy if you thing of the genre of the movie).
In short, good sound, cool action, sexy actors and a good pace.... Watch it!
