  • Nickelodeon, my faith has been restored

I had just about given up on my beloved childhood station of so many years when one day I ran across this show. My sister was watching it in our living room and I became curious and joined her. I immediately found myself laughing and caring for the characters.

The show centers around Ned, a junior high student who's considered somewhat of an expert on school survival. Every episode deals with the ways he and his friends, Cookie and Mose, must cope with evil science teachers, student rivalries, bullies, and anything else that may crop up.

The acting is phenomenal, the script is brilliant, and the tips and characters are true to life. Nearly every school has at least one of these people wandering the halls. This is also one of the only shows to center solely on school life. Ned's home life is strictly off limits, as is everyone else's, which makes for a focused show with no annoying subplots.

    A solid 9.5/10 for me.

  • Stop acting 'mature' and remember the preteen angst

Being an old school Nick child myself, I had long ago resigned myself to the fact that the kids' channel would never again reach its former glory with such cheap imitations as the new "All That" and mind-numbing "Zoey 101." One day, however, out of boredom I flipped back to my old favorite station and came across this show. I'll be the first to say that it isn't brilliant, but it's not supposed to be. As I believe another commenter before me said, it's not Shakespeare. It chronicles the life of Addie, an average, if slightly socially awkward, teenage girl.

Though I've been out of junior high for some time now, I find Addie easily relatable and often very similar to myself, such as the scenes involving the made-up songs sung slightly off-key and the fantasies about what she would -like- to have happened as opposed to what really did.

I really am unable to understand the people who simply begin bashing this show because Emma Roberts "can't sing" and claim that this is supposed to be a musically inclined show and the only reason she got the part is because Julia Roberts is her aunt. The show is depicting a normal teenage girl (i.e. not a teen singing sensation and therefore not someone who's going to sound professionally trained) and Roberts can act whether some people recognize it or not. Sure, she may not be up for any prestigious awards in the near future, but I think with a little time she could become a well-respected actress in this business.

Overall, I give this show an 8.5/10.
