  • A Beautiful Film and Worth Experiencing

"Cosmos" is a fantastic and thoughtful film. From the opening scene to the thrilling end, I enjoyed it. The look of a medium or big budget film, with good lighting and camera cuts that follow the story well.

Many reviews are commenting on a slow pace. Yes, it's not a typical sci-fi, fast-paced adventure film, but the storytelling supports the pace well. It's supposed to be about the men and their journey as individuals and as a group throughout the film. I don't find it slow. I find it contemplative and balanced. The actors put in a lovely performance all around.

Disclosure: I am a science nerd, and I love the specificity of the jargon used in the film. It rarely descended to the lowest common denominator, which I appreciate. I felt the cosmological concepts were not overly technical as to be unobtainable to comprehend for the average viewer, but also not overly simplified.

This film evoked a good range of emotion from me. I invested in the characters, in their frustrations and discoveries (not just about their findings but about each other too) and by the end I was clutching my sofa pillow, my heart pounding. The end made me cry with excitement and joy, and an inkling of hope at what a possibly life-filled universe we inhabit.

I hope these brothers keep making films.

  • Fun but inaccurate

I watched this movie before I rode horses, and I thought it was very exciting! Then I watched it years later after having had a few years' experience riding and competing. Though it's an entertaining movie, there are real inaccuracies that come with the riding and competition portions. Some of it is simply bad equitation and performance, but some of it is also the filmmakers not representing the level of competition properly. Also, the time frame used from the idea of training the horse until the competition is ridiculous. As a horse movie, it is definitely not the worst, and for the most part I still enjoyed it, but if you know horses well enough, you will notice the glaring flaws.

  • The Family Dog!

This hysterical animated short is a classic that can be enjoyed by anyone who has ever had a dog or a family or even if not, anyone who enjoys a good laugh! The animation isn't that of a top blockbuster Disney, but it's cute and the family is just odd enough to make most people feel at home.

The main story is a small dog dealing with two kids, the kids' parents, and their overall household. When the dog is left at home after indulging in too much of Mom's new recipe while the family takes in a movie, the story gets interesting. It's a small cast of characters, but each is memorable in their own right.

My only concern is that it's not long enough! It leaves me wanting another adventure of this interesting and somewhat misfortuned canine.
