Cohen's War

  • Overlooked!!

This film gives a common subject that normal people don't recognize, and explain the issues through Patten's and Lee Cohen's eyes. Lee Cohen, an immigration lawyer, defends two Canadian refugees. Although the film is a short, it still goes in depth of the current moment in American. Both with the Cnadians coming to America, and Mexicans coming to America. I thought that Patten did a great job following and showing the problem this is. Also, like in Patten's other great documentary, "Words of My Perfect Teacher" it has a soft side that the audience has to chip away to get to the real meaning of the film. I think Patten has a good documentary style that has yet to be recognized, and the big audience has yet to find this treasure. I enjoyed the intensity and complexion of the piece, and hope many others like this will be made. Especially in this day n' age. Like I said this is very overlooked!! 10 out of 10!!

  • The best satire every made!!!

The smooth, cool, and funny way that Kubrick made a real issue feel. the fact that it had enough seriousness to provide a deep and emotionally layered story, bouncing back and forth from character to character till Maj. "King" Kong rides the bomb. Other movies like "Fail Safe", directed by Sydney Lummet, basically had the same message, but it didn't have the cool feel that Dr. Strangelove supplied. This movie should have won at the Oscars. Kubrick should have been noticed as the great director he is, and Peter Sellers should have won for playing THREE roles!! I believe that everyone should see this movie, and any who doesn't should shut their pie holes!! 10 outta 10!!!!!!!

  • A good return of the old Scorsese

The Departed starts out with a scene that Scorsese does well. the mob boss walking through a shop, paying for other people things, and acting in charge of things. We soon meet the young Matt Damon character that grows up to be a cop that's in bed with the Irish mob. Then, we meet Leonardo DiCaprio's character, a cop who got kicked out of the police academy who gets a second chance to work against the mob. The story move right into story before you know it. Matt Damon's is soon a detective, with a kick ass apartment over looking Boston. For Leonardo, things are so smooth. Getting a chance to get at the Irish mob, he soon takes. When the mob boss, Jack Nicholson, asks Matt Damon's character to find out who the other cop is.

The story does one thing very well that original Chinese movie 'Infernal Affairs' did, also. The quick story pace. Of course Scorsese being Scorsese the story won't hang in a nothing scene. I love the differences from the original movie, and LOVED the fact that Scorsese didn't go through the Italian route. It was a very nice change, and a nice look back at what he was doing in the seventies and on. the movie provided a very well written story, and the movie was very well acted. This, I hope, will beat that Oliver Stone melodrama. 10 out of 10.
