This is a great showcase for Al Jolson, performing many of his most well-known songs.
In the late 20s and early 30s, Jolson was considered one of the best ... if not THE best ... entertainer of the time. Best known for starring in the first all sound feature length talking picture, The Jazz Singer ... although shorter sound films had been around for several years before, and The Jazz Singer was actually partly silent ... the only sound portions were his singing routines.
The film is only spoiled by several black-face routines ... but those were common for him and other performers (Edie Cantor et.al.) in the 1930s. It is what it is. But Jolson shines.
