  • Family Viewing Masterpiece

Lone Wolf (1972), known as Vuk samotnjak, is a remarkable piece of Yugoslav cinema, skillfully directed by Obrad Glushcevic. This digitally restored film showcases exceptional picture and sound quality, enabling viewers to fully immerse themselves in the stunning Lika mountain region, the birthplace of Nikola Tesla.

The narrative centers around a touching friendship between a German shepherd, a former military dog abandoned in the mountains after World War II, and a young boy with a deep love for dogs. As the dog becomes more feral, the local villagers mistakenly view it as a menacing wolf threatening their sheep. However, young Ranko, played by Slavko Shtimac, sees beyond the dog's rough demeanor and forms a bond with the misunderstood creature, naming it Hund after the inscription on its collar.

Lone Wolf is an ideal family film that, like a fine wine, improves with age. Its themes of friendship, trust, and empathy are intricately woven into the storyline, making it a timeless classic that appeals to audiences of all generations. The breathtaking visuals of the Lika mountains and the authentic depiction of rural life in the Balkans enhance the film's allure, providing a truly engaging experience.

Under Obrad Glushchevic's skilled direction and featuring outstanding performances from the cast, especially Slavko Shtimac as Ranko, Lone Wolf stands out as a cinematic gem. The digitally restored edition invites a new audience to discover and cherish this poignant tale, which remains as impactful and relevant today as it was at its original release.

  • His best directing!

The Prosecutor, directed by the talented Donnie Yen, is an intense Hong Kong action thriller based on a true story from 2016. It follows Ma Ka-kit (Mason Fung), a young guy who gets wrongfully accused of drug smuggling after he rents out his address for some extra cash.

The cast is fantastic, with Donnie Yen taking the lead as Fok Chi-ho, a former narcotics detective who becomes a public prosecutor. Fok's relentless pursuit of justice for Ma is both motivating and gripping as he navigates the tricky waters of the Department of Justice, guided by his mentor Bao Ding (Kent Cheng) and chief prosecutor Yeung Dit-lap (Francis Ng).

Edmond Wong's brilliant screenplay, paired with Donnie Yen's direction and production, creates a suspenseful vibe that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The film dives into the corruption within the legal system and the struggle for justice, making it both thought-provoking and emotionally impactful.

The supporting cast, featuring Shirley Chan as defense attorney Li Sze-man and Julian Cheung as legal executive Au Pak-man, brings depth to the narrative, ensuring every character feels essential to the story.

The Prosecutor is a must-see for anyone who loves action thrillers and legal dramas. With its engaging plot, outstanding performances, and expert direction, this film showcases the strength of perseverance and the vital need to fight for justice against all odds.

  • I'm not really sure how many Umjolo movies have come out or how many are still on the way

I'm not really sure how many Umjolo movies have come out or how many are still on the way. Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of the series, but I have to say this one was pretty enjoyable. The film Umjolo: There is No Cure tells the story of a former beauty queen whose life takes a nosedive after she gets caught up in a public scandal. With her reputation in tatters and her personal life a mess, she decides to take charge by writing her memoirs. To help her with this big task, she reaches out to her favorite author, someone she's always looked up to. What starts as a professional partnership quickly turns into something more as they spend time together, and they can't help but feel a strong connection. The big question is-will they find the guts to face their feelings, or will their fears and situations keep them apart?

It's a pretty entertaining South African lesbian love triangle that doesn't drag on too long!
