Crazy movie with some insane scenes for the period and advanced special fx for that time too.
One of the rare Chiba & Fukasaku period movies. Spectacular-casting. Epic wire-stunts. Glorious cinematography, casting, make-up and acting!
The budget and time must have been a big challenge. It's got that big-set Metropolis' feel to it whilst using state-of-the-art camera techniques and set-design.
Trademark Fukasaku tracking shots are in use. Sonny & his Japan Action Club gang are employed to act. The action is very real and so gritty. Amazed that people didn't get injured doing these takes .
Another genius movie from Kinji Fukasaku. Rip to the casting & crew who are no longer with us! Excellent reissue by Eureka! Part of the Masters-Of-Cinema range! 8/10!

I got a copy from Eureka! In 2k restoration on limited-release slipcase edition. The front cover of a hitman with different angels is pretty beautiful.
Ken Takakura plays the star; a hitman called 'Golgo 13'. He has been paid to do a hit on a cult of kidnappers.
The film starts with the deal. He signed off on the deal and then flies out to asscertain the area where his targets is beleived to be hiding.
Beforehand he is ordered to spend a night in a hotel making love to his fake undercover wife who eventually falls in love with him. Just another part of the job for our hero.
This film is shot in Iran mostly with a great wide lens camera action. Tracking and cinematography is excellent. For the time period the stunt-driving is fantastic as well and there are several excellent chase-sequences.
When Ken gets captured on his way hunting the bad guys there is an exceptional prison sequence. He comes into contact with his target's lead operator and whilst engaging with his men he gets captured.
From there the movie spirals out into chaos and action sequences. There is plenty of gun-shooting and some lovely tracking shots and close-ups of the action.
For the time-period of the 70's golden Toei Cinema era this is another underrated classic. I don't know why it's underrated here as it really is a refreshing movie from so many generic hitman films. It's also from an era of so much cinematic creativity and a real change for Japanese cinema.
Toei really killed it in the 1970's and so many gems came out including this one. A strong 8/10. No way a 6.1. Asian films are still criminally underrated on IMDB for some reason.
