Watching Casper & Mandrilaftalen is like learning to play classical piano. It takes somebody to force you into it, it is boring, frustrating and confusing, but after a while, a whole new universe opens to the exclusive crowd (Mainly Danish-speaking weirdos)...
The show is by far the craziest, funniest and most ground-breaking TV show ever made - it makes shows like Monty Python look mainstream. The show revolves around the host, Casper, who present "news", invites "guests" (played by the other actors) and displays "talent shows". Most of what is being said *lobster soup! already now* seems completely without any structure, or without any purpose. However, by allowing *everything*, the creativity of the actors are spurred, and sharp-edged satire and criticism of "the establishment" is mixed with meaningless, absurd scenes.
You will not be able to appreciate fully this show if you watch it like you'd watch "Friends" or "Spin City", you have yo allow your fantasy flow with the fast pace, the crazy colors and the wicked universe, and you'll have almost as much fun as the authors had making it...
Just don't ask "why"...

I saw this movie on TV with the lowest of expectations, well knowing that I was not exactly about to see a blockbuster... What first struck me and confirmed me in my worst prejudices was the apalling acting by most of the characters and the highly predictable script.
Well, one might ask, why keep watching? Because this film actually entertains, it does have its twists and turns, and it do surprise the audience now and then. Sure, the scripting, the set pieces, the actors' clothes, the camera shooting and the artistic effects are evidently copied from movies far greater than this. And sure, the subtleness of the characters and the environment is - to say the least - fairly limited. But it works - it serves its purpose - it entertains us.
The screen writer leaves little to our imagination at times (you know what I mean - pityful for such a bad movie). The movie doesn't exactly challenge its viewers. And it contains almost any kliché movie scene you can ever think of (including the courtroom-verdict scene, the classical scary movie scenes, and, in particular, the scene with the man, insaneously obsessed with the female main character, developing pictures of her in his darkroom). But in the end, it still goes quite well for 90 minutes of brainless entertainment on a sunday night. As a matter of fact, I've seen lot worse movies... 5/10... see it if its on TV, but don't spend money on it, please...

At first, this movie does not appear impressing through our Hollywood-customed glasses. The effects lies somewhat below our expectations of a modern movie, the story line doesn't, at the first glimpse, seem to have the complexity, detail level, depth and relevance to present time that moviegoers of 2001 expect.
However, this movie, in my opinion revives the essentials of movies and storytelling in general. Through a time- and factless environment, we are told a story with an unrealistic but intriguing touch. We then let our own fantasy fill the gaps, and subconsciously relates the movie to own experiences thus giving the movie a personal sense of meaning.
If you start watching this movie with "hollywood dreams", you might easily be disappointed, but if you expect a bedtime story for adults, I'm sure you'll like this breathtaking, stunningly beautiful fairytale from afar...
Please do yourself the favor to see this movie, and rediscover the child within yourself!
