A film with something for everyone- fantasy, comedy, horror, family drama, coming of age, sport biopic - full package! Among the finest child performances in a fantacomedrama I have ever seen. Femininist elegy partnered with dad rights. Immigrant plight, undermined by colonial tyranny- what can't this film do? Hellraiser meets Heavy Metal, meets Uncle Buck. The finest of costumes and special effects. Where do I sign up for crazy ball?
This movie is super low budget and not worth paying to see, but as a Tuesday night movie on IFC it was kinda funny. With a few faces from Trailer Park Boys to get my attention I gave it a chance and while incredibly amateurish looking and with very clunky dialogue, there were funny scenes, a few brief clever moments and somewhat creative social and interpersonal themes explored. Similarly, there were cute, but legitimate film-making techniques, that while awkwardly delivered, indicated someone wanted to and enjoyed making this movie. With experience in the baking industry, the use of a large scale commercial bakery as the inspiration for writing erotic fiction, is a hilarious concept. There is also some nice scenery of the Maritimes and a pleasantly folksy soundtrack. Could be worse...
