I don't usually care for Police/Detective Procedurals--especially the Hollywood kind, because they're too formulaic.... Predictable pablum.
This one caught me lightly by the collar and then GRABBED me like a fist. The characters, all of them, are gritty and not-quite likeable. And true to BBC/British standards: They are NORMAL PEOPLE. It's not a freaking, false Hollywood trope Parade of Beautiful Super Models pretending to be cops & lawyers.
And all the characters have Character. What they are you see in what they DO and what they SAY. And because were talking British TV--We're seeing EXCELLENT DIALOGUE at work.
Morck is humanly Scary in a way that only an ANGRY man shouldering too much, but still TRYING not to Break can be.
And Moira (Kate Dickie) is a dynamo of repressed authoritarian rage...always on edge, but staying just on this side of what's Right.
And Merritt, the VICTIM.... is NOT LIKEABLE at all! That makes this show all the more perplexing. You want to see how they close everything up.
And Akram...like other posters are saying, the dual relationship between him and Morck develops totally in its own track that follows no known TV Cop trope. But you know that in a setting filled with folks shouting and screaming...the Quiet One is the one you should be scared of...
...Still--Akram is definitely a Good Guy.
I have to FORCE myself not to binge watch.
The Tension is to be savored. Not gorged all at once.

At first--it's looks like a madcap weird but seemingly predictable comic style story about some guys and gals with strange, unwanted powers trying to cope while running from shadowy Gov't trackers.
And on that superficial level, it works---and yes, it can get corny at times...but in a fun "Everyone's in on the Joke' way.
But underneath that, You will start to notice how the dialogue and the characters seem to constantly circle back to the question and the well-known Trope about "Mad Scientists & Monsters"
And there's an unexpected nuance there:
What makes a Monster?
What makes a Scientist 'Mad'?
Everywhere in stories, there's the plain boring nerdy scientist that no-one cares about.
There's the focused genius Scientist There's the Visionary Scientist There's the misguided Scientist There's the corrupt Scientist There's the Evil Scientist There's the Crazy Scientist
...And then there the Mad Scientist.
And why is it that Mad Scientists always seem to make Monsters?
One Line caught my attention: "I'm not unprincipled. I'm undaunted."
Delivered with straightforward, believable deadpan honesty it made me blink.
"Yeah," I thought. "That's what makes a Scientist a Mad Scientist."
All that said-- I found the story, the characters and the snappy repartee to be a very entertaining watch.
But most of all, the end of the series had a nice twist... It locked in the TITLE of the series.
If you get it...it's a nice rhetorical snap.

Too many People may be expecting a hoot-a-minute a la American Dad...or something like clone of Rick and Morty...
It's not. It's its own thing. It's about the Gods and Mortals and this weird new thang called: 'Civilization'. It's using the Greek Pantheon of Olympus, but it's not gonna follow History exactly... It's not about Greece. It's just using the whole thing as a setup.
Listen to the dialogue: it's about Humans running into this thing about rules and society. It's about the Gods and how they see things.
My favorite character is the goddess Deleria: She's not a clueless bimbo. She's a sharp-tongued God who lays out a lot of very incisive and insightful observations about Men: But just from a God's point of view.
"Oh, must everything you mortals don't understand become a folk tale?"
Or...
"Of course we have a relationship between Gods and Mortals for thousands of years: It's called Worship!"
From a God's mindset, everything she says is hilarious--yet makes perfect sense!
