I really don't see why people love this. The characters are flat and unlikable, and the story feels thin and aimless. The visuals are carefully composed and the colors deliberate, but that polish can't hide a dull script. The stacked cast feels wasted, condescending and overhyped, turning what could have been quirky into something tedious. I also kept feeling like the audience was tricked by the arrogance of the filmmakers.
I love this show and only discovered it today. I also was sad to learn that it was canceled after S2. But I'm hoping that another network picks it up again. It's really thoughtful and character driven. I love the suspense and the time shift element. Good story and great writing and acting. I love the set design being dark, too.
I really like the thought provoking ideas discussed. And I'm impressed with the roster of experts who are a part of this series. But there's way too much shutterstock video clips that are just mashed together. The main issue I have is that while the hosts are both passionate and knowledgeable, they aren't really fit for this. I get a vibe of overly-rehearsed, intermediately-experienced podcasters who are more than eager for the viewer to like them. The intonations of their voices irk me so much I can't watch an entire episode without stopping. That said, I do come back for more. But I suggest some media training.
