Every decade or so we get a new iteration of Superman and Gunns mostly nails it on the spot. Though sometimes it feels heavily influenced of Guardian of the Galaxy in visual and tone, it is fun, exciting and entertaining to watch. The pacing is great and didn't feel to dramatic where you would be taken out of the story. The actions like a video game or comic book is over the top exciting. Gone are the dark, serious tone which most kids wouldn't like to watch. I'm looking forward to see the extended universe with other characters with their own stories. I enjoyed Guardian of the Galaxy and Gunn brings the right amount of balance of visual, action and humor to entertain.
After 10 years, I watched it again because of the anticipation of the 2025 reboot and to see how well it held up. Overall it is a decent movie however it doesn't know its target audience. Is it a serious drama for adults, is it a comic story for kids? My teen was not engaged because from the beginning of the movie it's just so serious and slow. The second half was more action pack which what it should be for a superhero movie suppose to be. The pacing was slow since it was an origin story and the beginning had to explain where he came from. The script needs to be tighter and story can be better.
