I refused to watch the show at first because the deadheads at CBS canceled So Help Me Todd and added this instead. Alas, there is so little to watch on Thursday nights that I finally started watching. It's a non-horrible way to pass an hour. However, there is so much to shake your head at. For one thing, the whole business about preventing the daughter's and others' deaths if 10 years earlier opioids had been "taken off the market." Crap. Opioids have their place in medicine, but the main thing is that addicts will ALWAYS find more drugs. Always. The daughter died because she was a DRUG ADDICT.
The acting is so-so from most of the cast, but the young lawyer, Sarah - I can't believe she graduated from the 8th grade let alone college and law school. Kathy Bates' acting is fine, but the best one is Sam Anderson as her husband. He gives the series the touch of class it needs. Bates' character isn't all that noble given the fact that she fails to recognize that the law firm didn't cause her daughter's death, and she lies to and manipulates everyone to accomplish her mission. It was putrid that she chose to screw the young woman who lost a kidney just so she could get in the law firm's good graces.
One thing that truly bothers me is the fact that the grandson is so overweight. I grew up a fat kid and it's not mentally or physically healthy. Loving grandparents should never have let him get to that stage.
I so very much miss Todd ...

I was SOOOOO excited about this series and watched the first episode. I was really disappointed on a number of fronts. Aldis Hodge is excellent in the role, as in every role he plays, but I can't say the same for the supporting characters. Ryan Eggold with blond hair?? No thank you. And the woman who plays the police chief is a total miss. Awful choice of actress (and hairstyle). The other thing that turned me off was the rap/hip hop opening theme and soundtrack. It was blaring and a real turnoff, often taking away focus on the action. Not sure if I'm going to watch the rest. I may try another episode. Maybe, just to watch Aldis.
I have begun bingeing it on Prime Video after a couple of decades and found it both enjoyable and cringe-worthy - those 1980s clothes and hair! LOL The first five seasons had the best cast, but after Hamlin, Smits, and Greene (then Dey after season 6) left it began a downhill slide. The remaining characters weren't all that interesting and except for John Spencer as Tommy Mullaney the new additions were forgettable at best. The 7th season was terrible with the extended arc of Stuart getting harmed in the Rodney King riots and descending into buffoonery before he made something of a mild comeback. That was a terrible plot device and what has kept me from revisiting the rest of season 7 and season 8. At least we had 5 decent seasons to enjoy.
