Sabre-El

This movie starts out quite interesting, where we see the lead couple able to see into another couple's flat. The lead couple are believable and quite ordinary really. The couple that are looking at live the 'high life' - I can't say I relate, but I could totally buy it being realistic.

The movie is slightly hurt because it never seems to figure out what it is. It tries to be erotic, but isn't really apart from a scene or two, and it tries to be a thriller as well, but isn't really.

The plot is slow, as you'd expect, but there are just about enough things happening that keep it interesting. Things reach its peak near the end and honestly the movie would have been great had it been left at that. However, seems like the director or writer wanted to 'subvert expectations' too much and they went on to go for twists just for the sake of it (and that too in the last 5-10 minutes) - so many things were out of place and it really made a 'believable' story 'unbelievable'.

The acting is great from everyone (apart from the main actor, whose voice is like it's coming from another part of his body). The directing is pretty decent - there were some scenes which were very well thought out.

Overall a decent movie which I would have rated 7/10 if not for the absurd ending.

Like many others, I was quite interested in watching Sinners because of the hype created regarding it. When I finally sat down watching it, I kept on waiting and waiting for something to transpire.

This is one movie in a long time, where I've forced myself through. I couldn't help but put my mind elsewhere, as nothing was really happening. The true 'horror' started after an hour into the movie. Even after that things don't pick up until later on. And when they do, it's all over quite quickly.

Strange that they spend so much time trying to set up characters, but none of them really are set up enough to be cared about, not even the protagonist(s).

I understand that the idea of the movie isn't true horror. It's also part musical: there is quite a lot of music mixed into it which can be fun at times and annoying at some. There are some good touches of movie direction, one notably during one of the music/dance scenes.

Overall, I didn't feel it was worth the time.

This is one of those cases which shows that movie ratings do not represent reality. To me, this movie offers so much given the type of movie it is meant to be. It's not meant to be serious, it's not meant to be dramatic. It's just meant to be a renewed version of the old TV series. And it delivers on that.

The movie follows the protagonists' to becoming Power Rangers and almost two-thirds of the movie is dedicated to that. The pace during this time is quite good. Everything, from the graphics to the directing and acting (not so much, but it gets a pass as these aren't well-known actors) is top notch.

The last third of the story is a bit rushed, but is still fulfilling. The villain's motivations are not so clear, and the same can be said about their powers. But this is Power Rangers; what do we even expect?

All in all, a very decent modern take on the Power Rangers. One can see that the film-makers have tried their best to add as many throw-backs as they could. I'm not that big a fan of them, but I got to say that this actually ranks as one of the movies that I had fun watching this year. Will definitely recommend watching, esp. if you want to watch a family movie.
