Is this story typical for a K-drama...yes and no.
It is a boy meets girl, boy loses girl story, but its one with a realistic and open ending.
The leads were decently fleshed out, but it does seem like the story is mostly a vehicle for the female lead's story more so than the male lead. Most of the side characters are good, funny and well written. I wished it was little longer to explore some of the side character's stories more, but like I side the writer's focuses was on the female lead's story.
The acting is really good, some reviews mentioned the male lead was boring or couldn't act. I disagree. I think his acting was very subtle and it was a great pairing for the female lead's behavior. There aren't many dramas I'd watch more than once, but this might be one of them.

When this show debuted I was not interested, I had never read the books, but I gave it a chance. Season 1 is good, not great, just good. The characters and the writing is decent. The actors are very good in their roles. Season 2 I actually loved, unpopular opinion, maybe, but I loved it. I had read all of the books by now and season 2 was very different from the book's storyline but in a good way. The writing and narrative was solid. The actors were amazing. I couldn't wait for season 3, but the current show running team has ruined the series. I enjoyed maybe the 1-2 hours devoted to Colin and Penelope's storyline. But the other storylines, with the exception of Lady Bridgerton's, were garbage and not worth the money wasted on season 3. I will not be watching the remaining seasons. Netflix do what you do best and cancel this show.
