As a filmmaker myself I know how deep it may hurt to read a negative review. It is true that everyone is a critic these days. It's very easy to sit behind a computer and bash somebody else's work. I also believe that there are a lot of disgruntled critics out there, who could not swing it in the biz themselves, so they take their anger out on other peoples work. I watched this movie at the perfect time. My film STASH came out about a month ago and has seen it's fair share of mixed reviews. Some good and some bad. The thing is that people will actually attack you personally. Geez..if you don't like the movie, tell us what you don't like about it and move on. Jamie Kennedy has experienced this many times, and this is a brilliant movie for him to do. I really enjoyed this film, and highly recommend it to any artist that has or is getting to release their product onto the world. The internet critic can be brutal and this was a very therapeutic watch for me. Thanks you Jamie for putting this out!!!
ZEPPO is one of those movies that takes you back to the days of low budget cinema in the style of Ed Wood, with a little Troma mixed in. You got ghouls, woman, cardboard sets, beer drinking zombies, and many other crazy concepts. Another draw for this indie gem is the casting of three b-movie genre staples. Troma President Llyod Kauman, Debbie Rochon, and Plan 9 From Outer Spaces' Conrad Brooks! There is indeed some side splitting laugh out loud moments in this movie. People who may be offended by raunchy humor probably should avoid this film. If you are a fan of Troma and other movies similar in that style you will find everything you need right here. I must also praise the filmmakers for getting a very good sound mix. The dialog was mostly all recorded separate with ADR sessions and it sounds very nice and crisp, which is the downfall of a lot of no no budget films. Hopefully this film will get a distribution deal soon and get out there for the masses to check out. If you like this film you will also enjoy the Directors other film Purvos.
Let's say that this film was the reason that I purchased a Panasonic DVX-100 to shoot my first feature film STASH. I had the pleasure of meeting CJ a few years ago at a film convention in Lexington, KY. He was a really nice dude, and also a very talented one. I remember asking him what kind of film camera he used for the production, and when he said it was DV I about fell over. It was then, and still to this day in my opinion one of the best DV shot movies I have ever scene. Let's not skimp over the storytelling here which is also superb! You could tell CJ put A lot of thought into this project before shooting. The lighting and cinematography were really great and caught the perfect mode at all times. This all leading up to one of the BEST endings I have seen in ANY movie period, mainstream or indie. If you have not seen this one, I think CJ has it over at his website for view. IF not I'm sure it can be found out there somewhere with a search, and I highly recommend it!
