I really liked this. Yes it's low budget but they managed to make the very most of those funds.
The story is solid, the acting is great and the overall effect is competent and compelling.
It's certainly up there, if not better, than a lot of the found footage horror movies made with much more cash, this feels like it also had heart invested in it and it shows.
People criticise the special effects - have you seen the latest IT and Stranger Things? - and remember these guys had nothing like the cash those shows had.
It's not perfect but it's fun and passed 80 minutes rewardingly. I will be looking out for new offerings from all those involved.

I really liked this, it had a Silent Night/Ready or Not kind of vibe. Great performances from all and moves along quite nicely with some very funny moments.
It looks really good and the gore is lovely over the top.
So glad I ignored the negative reviews which bare no resemblance to reality.
90 minutes well spent.

I think how you feel about this after the first episode depends on how old you are. Those of us who grew up reading King probably hate it while younger fans probably love it.
I'm afraid to say I thought it was absolutely awful. Someone is trying to mix a 80's Spielberg feel and look with a stranger things vibe, failed badly and has also totally ommitted the King element.
The acting is ok but just ok. The story is all over the place and the special effects are laughable, how on earth did anyone watch that and say, that's great, we'll go with that????
The story was confusing but of course that could all come together as it's very early days so it could be a bit unfair to dismiss it so soon.
But it will have to improve massively. I'll give the next episode a watch and see how it goes but if it is as bad as the first, it will also be the last.
When you compare this to Mr Mercedes the gap in class and talent and watchability is enormous.
After this and The Institute it may be time to stop people adapting King material.
I sincerely hope Mike Flanagan had some a much better job with Carrie.
So, ep 2.... More rubbish effects and to add to the aforementioned "nods", you can include close encounters to the list as well as many other shows when it came to the supermarket scene, think From for one example.
My opinion hasnt changed: muddled story interspersed with poor and far from scary scare scenes. Ideas taken from so much other stuff it lacks any originality at all.
This feels as unKing like as you can get.
I'm.going to stick with it just to see how bad it gets or if it miraculously gets better. Not holding my breath for the latter.
Now we have someone's face dissolving in front of a mirror.... For goodness sake, is there ANYTHING original in this garbage?
That's me done. This is totall awful. Not the casts fault, the writers and creators need chucking down a drain.
