Crazy original film.. trying to encapsulate almost everything about the human condition.. from simple human emotions, trust, love.. to opposition, hierarchy, religion, politics..how we perceive the world, the relationship between man and a woman, heavy philosophical and transcendental scenes.. the first 30 minutes are almost unbearable though.. at one point it got so boring, i could not sit still, i was going mental.. some people left the cinema.. mainly because of the heavy overly poetic and dramatic dialogue.. the rest is a joy for the imaginative mind.
It is based on a Sci-Fi novel, written by the grandfather of Zulawski. The novel had a great influence on Stanislaw Lem as he was growing up.
Mind-blowing stuff. A must-see for the serious cinephile.

I saw this film last night and I was blown away by the subtle and yet genius approach to themes like jealousy, alcoholism and learning to love yourself and what you do. I perceive this film as a rare gem. The reviews are somehow mixed, but for me, it was a fresh air in the recent independent films, though a film with this stellar cast hardly could be called an independent one. It successfully binds real life topics, with magical realism and surprisingly succeeds in delivering an unforgettable synthesis, one which could be more beautifully felt, than strictly logically explained. The explanation is not hard to grasp, but the beauty of the concept as a film art piece is much more than the explanation of it. It is a poetic film with brilliant story structure and acting. The climax poetically reaches for and succeeds in evoking feelings which we all had, in times of great struggles, fighting with our demons and the demons of the others, which not always tend to destroy only themselves but reach towards our 'greener garden' as well. I recommend this film to every curious and creative soul out there.
This underrated gem gets to the core of the family values, issues and their imprints on our souls. The happiness and the bitterness we share with our siblings and parents. Why they matter to us, do we carefully appreciate and cultivate these feelings and subtle moments shared with a loved one. In what manner we behave towards and treat a family member, and what does it do to us in the future. Are we always open and sharing our love? What could our fear of showing our love in full do to the other person? Is it monstrous to not always hug and kiss your child? Don't we all just do what has been done to us? Maybe somewhere in there there's the strongest love in the coldest looking person. Or maybe not.. This strong and beautiful film explores these topics with a surprising depth. I wish that more people could see it. I saw it. And I'm glad.
