An early stop-motion short made by animation pioneer Emile Cohl, loosely inspired by Goethe's Faust. (Making this also one of earliest adaptations of said work, preceded only by Edwin S. Porter and George Melies versions, made in 1900 and 1904, respectively)
Considering that animation was still in an early stage of development, when this short film was released, the ambition of its scope is nothing short of impressive, feeling quite ahead of its time.
Sadly enough, even to this very day, this particular title still doesn't get the proper recognition it deserves, not even by animation historians.
It certainly deserves a higher score here on IMDb. And it's definitely not a "comedy," as this website mistakenly labels this film.
