I was watching this as I read some of the reviews for this documentary. A lot of people who disliked it seemed to be thrown off by the display of wealth via her clothes, shoes, etc. I would say that, while I agree it's a weird direction to take, I don't think Celine was trying to flaunt her privilege at others. I think the point of it was to show her downfall because of this disease. All the "stuff" she gained when she was at her prime shows a previous life. I, too, thought this documentary was badly directed and oddly paced. However, I think it's harsh to judge Celine the person based on what the director or writer wanted to show. To those who are saying she should have focused on donating money or paying it forward: she doesn't really owe anybody anything, but who is to say she's not doing that already? I think the beginning of the film touched on this: she feels she can't live her own life because everyone expects the "great Celine Dion" to do what Celine Dion does - present her best image to the public. But that's the point of the whole thing - she is just a human going through a disease that she's allowed to endure on her own terms. Especially after going through loss in other ways, too.
If you're watching this for some serious intrigue, change your expectations. However, if you want to watch a lighthearted comedy with some emotional punches, then this is the right show. Ted Danson shines as a widower looking for a meaningful life after the death of his wife. The cast of characters are all great, and the story has more meaning behind it than you'd think. I know humor is subjective, but I was laughing out loud at certain times. I think this show does a great job at balancing humor while exploring some deep themes about getting older.
