  • Disappointing sequel to a great film.

I bought this movie because I loved the first one : Public Enemy.

I thought 'Another Public Enemy' would be a different case with the same interesting characters and style as the first one. Instead, the cop is now a Public Prosecutor, he talks, acts and even looks different - without any explanation as to how we got from the first film to this one - it lacks any kind of continuity. It's almost as if the two have nothing to do with each other.

In this movie Kang Chul-jung is more of clever, on-the-ball investigator rather than rough-edged instinctive cop he was in part 1.

Unlike the first the first film, Another Public Enemy is 'just another cop movie'. For me this film lacked the originality and quirkiness that characterised first one.

If you were a fan of Public Enemy 1 you'll be thoroughly disappointed with this.

  • Good film - worth watching - could be better though

A good film all round, nice cinematography, good acting.

My only criticism of the film is that unlike other murder mystery / crime solving films - this one shows you the culprit from the beginning - who know who done it, so there's little by way of suspense in solving a crime.

The only surprise is discovering that some of the characters aren't quite who they seem.

Also you would think that an actress of Shu Qi' stature would have a more meaningful role - she just seems to be there as Takeshi's girl friend. That's it.

That being said, it's a film worth worth watching.

  • Quirky film - quite original

At first I wasn't sure what kind of film this was: cop film, murder mystery, comedy? The black humour throughout is peppered with lots of swearing and some gruesome killing scenes.

What's different about this film is the cast - the main cop Kang Cheol-Jung, his boss, and others are all eccentrics in their own right. There aren't many jokes or slapstick, but the characters themselves make you laugh.

Unlike other murder mysteries where the investigator solves the case with clues and evidence, Kang Cheol-Jung (the main cop) pursues this case because of his instinct. He has no doubt the suspect is guilty (somehow), despite the lack of evidence.

As for being quirky - there are a few scenes in this film which make you wonder "why did they include this"? One such scene involves the main villain/suspect in the movie. His character is played so well you actually start to hate the guy as the film progresses. "What a jerk!" you think. At that point you understand (perhaps) why the first scene portrays him as it does. ;-) You'll understand once you've seen the film.

This film is quite unique, unlike any others I've seen. Highly recommended.
