  • Driver worship

I like the concept but the commentators sound drunk and idolise the drivers too much.

Commentary is like a conversation between two drunks in a bar becoming emotional over every talking point.

Editing and camera shot selection is 99% based around idolising the driver and distracting the viewer with fast moving images, not showing actually what is going on.

The real drama in the show and the reason why Ninja Warrior was so popular is to see people challenging each other in strength, focus, efficiency, endurance... who might make it far... who won't... not worshipping people and using distracting images.

All motorsport is shown using medium-long range shots so you can actually see racing lines, who/what they're competing against, and it needs it here, even if it's circus drifting.

  • No story, low effort remake

There's no discernable story that you can attribute to the movie. Nearly every character has their own path, and it's one of victimhood instead of belonging, being a family member, being kooky.

Michael Keaton, Catherine O'Hara, and Monica Bellucci's characters have all decided what they want and are out to get it, but they aren't featured enough, and nor should they carry the movie.

None of the music matches. It's slow and dim-witted like the writing and most of the acting.

Any and all drama momentum is destroyed by the poor writing, music, acting, directing, editing.

The newest, most fiery, scary, and annoying director would have been the right choice for this movie. They would have been in everybodies faces to do their job properly.

The movie is principally low effort.

  • Unmemorable

Too much focus was spent on the fight scenes, and they were endless... but 50% believable at best.

All of the scenes inbetween make the movie better.

Donnie Yen's character wasn't shot right most of the time, so you have to use your own imagination to get more drama/friction out of the scene.

Donnie's positioning (Eg. Sitting on stairs waiting to be approached with dead guys around him) is better shot from a distance with everything in frame at once.

Keanu Reeve's character had too many hero shots, and bottom-up scanning. It takes away from the drama/friction of the moment. To understand the gravity of the situation requires using your own imagination....

Everyone, including the radio host spoke with too much gravitas.

The fight scenes themselves were fine, except when a heavy set guy started doing spinning kicks... it looked like something out of a Mike Myers movie.

The story itself is beautiful and memorable, but the movie isn't shot to be rewatched.
