So this isn't as good as the remake and it's nice to see that the original writer and director was the Executive Producer on the remake. It's slow paced and harrowing. Hardly any music and very stark. With almost all if not all dialogue dubbed. I can imagine that it was horrendous to watch at the Cinema back in 1978 and would have been seen as a Video nasty on VHS release. The idea is sound and I'm so glad she gets her revenge. Yes the rape scenes are terrible but the revenge scenes like the remake will have you cheering! It's also interesting to see the the Writer/Director only managed to make a couple more films after this. It must have just been something he needed to do. It's worth a watch but as I said earlier the remake is much, much better. I'm giving it a 10 as I think the premise is excellent. There's not enough female revenge movies.
Another Mike Leigh masterpiece. Poppy would drive me absolutely insane!! It's a great movie as all of Mike Leigh's movies are. Just like looking at real life, interesting and flowing. As always it's effortless viewing. The acting so real it's runs as an artistic documentary. There's nothing else to tell you, Leigh is a Master or realism and this example shines.
As revenge movies go this is one of the best. Our star is incredible as she gets the grit and determination to go hunting her abusers. This whole series is good but I think this is the best.
