  • A Docu Drama About Boxing From Boxers Point Of View

i had this movie for many months in my pc, i am die hard fan of stanley kubrick and i am always fascinated by him but something really not interested me to watch this movie mainly because of the bad print i had, recently my pc got overloaded with lot of storage so i was going through files so that i can delete and maintain freespace so in that kind of situation i saw this movie, i was amazed by the way it was made by that time; that too with that kind of budget, since i want to delete i watched it again, now i am in dilemma whether to keep it or delete it because i feel multiple viewings will help me a great deal in my profession bec i too come from same profession, i think you understand how good it is.

we can clearly understand that the filmmaker wanted to explore the details about boxing for which he cleverly used point of view method bec only the persons involved immersely in something will know the pros and cons of that thing so it is a clever move to go that way.

this is a docu drama but at the same time the central character is the real person as depicted. the detailing and the way they shot was mindblowing but it will be exciting only when you see from that point of time where film-making is a difficult task.

the style of this film is very similar to stanley kubrick's another film called the killing which released after this movie like in the voice of the commentator, lighting, camera angles, music, etc.., this is not a positive movie about boxing and at the same time it is not negative too, this is a truthful movie about boxing and boxers.

there are chances that this movie can be a great influence with martin scorsese for his film raging bull, even though that is a true story as this is too, film-making might have influenced from this movie but if that is true you must understand what a great thing it is to get influenced for 70's movie from 50's movie; that is stanley kubrick.

  • This Movie Looks Better on second viewing

" I like when my friends visit me, i feel i am not alone and this is very important, not only for veterans but to everyone, not feeling alone" says veteran group leader CHARLES DUTTON in JACKNIFE, a movie about love, friendship, life etc.., This is not a war movie, this is a movie that shows veterans, war just acts as sub-plot.

Joseph Megessey ( known as 'megs' or 'jacknife') visits dave after 15 years to take him for fishing which they planned with their friend bobby who died in war before they returned from Vietnam and he says it is opening day.

Dave is friend of megs and bobby is suffering from PTSD (post trauma stress disorder) has became an alcoholic to forget his friend bobby's death rather it gets worse everday which also affects his sister martha's life who is a biology teacher and pretty old too but not married yet because of dave.

megs's arrival does not pleases dave but it blossoms romance with her sister which stresses more trouble for dave which leads to an confrontation at martha's prom which leads to an solution that dave is obsessed with all the time.

The way movie opened stimulated an interest to watch it keenly but the treatment is contrast to the opening because the way it opened gave an impression that it is a dark deniro's kind of serious drama which don't have any significance after.

The only great element survived the movie is the commitment the actors had and the way they executed is admirable especially the way deniro sporting with facial hair, definitely director must have convinced every actor on creating a impression of doing a great movie but it does'nt failed because the commitment is worth the admission for the movie.

  • This is excellently made modern charlie chaplin movie....

This is an excellent movie and you will realize that more when you're movies professional or an individual with enormous movie knowledge because when you're watching this movie for let's say over 90 minutes, one question comes every time and that is with what idea the director has shoot ed the movie, even though he knows that, it is very difficult to convince others, i mean the cast and the crew so the movie we are watching and for an movie like this to come to this stage is really surprising and i am happy for the director and also thank him for giving us such a film.

I can give plot synopsis but the director's focus is not at all the plot and when i give the plot here, u might not find it interesting because this movie is all about excellent writing and excellent filming.

There are lot of beautiful ingredients in this movie to admire such as the kid who is really damn cute and he takes over the whole project along with the director, it is as if only the director and the kid knows about what the movie is about and we audience following them all the way.

This is the excellent movie screenplay i have ever seen, no one can write such an screenplay unless the guy has enormous movie making knowledge.

This movie extremely goes with charlie chaplin kind of narration like showing tragedy in a comical way, using kid as protoganist etc..,

please don't miss this excellent poetic picture.

To the DIRECTOR and the KID - you guys rock.....
