  • Sometimes You Need a Stupid Movie

This is not high art, so if that's what you want, you'll be sorely disappointed.

But as a stupid, fun movie with no connection to the real world, it scores!

It's not rooted in reality, nor is it supposed to be.

No one turned in their best performance, but they didn't turn in their worst, either. It is silly fun with a silly, simple plot line.

The action is appropriate to the story and is as unrealistic as you should expect.

The bad guys are bad, the good guys sre good, the groomsmen are cowards, the bridesmaids unexpected heroines. Everyone plays to the expectations of their role.

If you need a stupid movie to unwind after a stressful week, this is a great choice!

  • 1/7 to Infinity and Beyond

    I wasted - I mean watched - the whole !$&@ show.

This had so much potential, but it was wasted on over the top cinematography. The editing may have been good, but I didn't see it. I expected much more.

On the one hand, this tries to be realistic, gritty, and suspenseful. It gets gritty right but that's about it.

On the other hand it wants to be stylized, like Sin City, but fails at every turn.

The plot was good and could have propelled this to s much better film. Tom Hardy was okay in this but his character wasn't sure who he was supposed to be.

Comic relief was the infinite ammunition fired at the rate of an M61 Vulcan (a six-barrel, air-cooled, electrically fired Gatling-style rotary cannon which fires 6,000 rounds per minute) no matter the weapon - AK-47s, MAC-10s, 45s, or revolvers. All of them fired with the distictve BRRRRRR- P of an A-10 on a strafing run but for much longer, with more ammo, than a C-5 could deliver with multiple trips.

I give it a 1/7 because, like the title, if taken seriously it deserves a 1 but if taken as a farce it might deserve a 7 and a 1/7 rating causes havoc for the score.

  • A Soap Opera Dressed in MARPAT

A soap opera is a soap opera, whether it's dressed in Marpat or western wear.

After binging Season 1, I'll skip Season 2.

The action was good, the basic plot was okay, the sub-plots were all mediocre.

There's a lot of wasted big name talent, though most of the secondary talent was generally well used, except for the Kyle Sanford character which would be fired from any line of work for their unearned arrogance.

So much of the dialogue was clichéd and inane, especially that between Nichole Kidman's character and her commodities-trading husband.

Details surrounding these types of paramilitary operations are relatively accurate, although the notion that your personal cell phone goes with you on a mission is stupidly wrong.

    Overall, it's a diversion.
