It should have ended with a proper closure however the time of an episode prevented it. A very great one though, despite the ending. However... I think you should use your imagination to fill in the blanks that were unable to be put and having to be left out of the ending. Again though a few season could have been cut to allow the proper ending. However maybe it needed them all.
