I.. I loved this. I'm biased towards sci-fi tv series, not because I'm a great fan, but because they are such ambitious projects and so hard to get right. You can tell whoever made this put all their passion into it, it's such a sight for sore eyes. Two things truly stand out: the cinematography and costumes.
Pause at anytime and it's impossible not to notice how each frame looks like an award winning photograph. But to me. the star of the show is the person who designed all these amazing dresses and suits. Think Iris van Herpen's runaway meets Spike Jonze's "Her". I'm not an expert by any means, but I hear 3D printed dresses take forever and are impossibly hard to make.
I haven't read the book, nor have I watched other adaptations, so I can't compare, but give this series a go, if only to feast your eyes and maybe you'll find that what it has to say is also worth your time.

I knew the ratings on Rotten Tomatoes were low, but it stars Rachel McAdams, Will Ferrell, Dan Stevens and Pierce Brosnan, how bad can it be? So I saw it just for the cast and it's even worse than I was prepared for. What they writers had in mind could have been a satire of Eurovision, but it comes across as a parody of a parody, where the result is borderline caricature-esque. It's on Netflix, so no extra money wasted, but only give it a go if you don't fancy anything else.
It felt almost like reading a book where you envision the characters so vividly, you can almost touch them. The chemistry the two leads have, their acting, the cinematography, are all so well blended together, so seamless, it's palpable. A melancholy trip worth taking, if only to remind the ones past teenage years how vulnerable and all-engulfing a young love is.
