I'll be honest, the previews did not do it justice and i had zero desire to watch this even though i like dumb comedies. Till i saw that John Cena was in it as i have enjoyed him recently as he seems to have really started to come into his own and find his niche as a comedic actor. Plus any movie that has William H. Macy in it automatically has me sold on watching it. I am not saying this is a great movie, but that it is funny and that it will make you laugh and John Cena delivers the comedy but also makes you feel for his character. This is definitely a comedy that i could watch over and over.
I had no desire to watch this knowing they weren't going to have Stallone in it. But decided to give it a try now that it is on Prime Video. I wish i didn't, It was just awful! It takes a lot for me to give a bad review but this deserves it. The movie has absolutely no heart or soul, it tries too hard and not enough in all the wrong places and the last fight scene has a segment that is just absolutely horrendous. I will give Jonathon Majors and Michael B Jordan props for their acting but their performances aren't worth the time. I get that they wanted to modernize this and take it in a direction away from the Rocky story line but the way they did it was just awful and completely disrespectful to the source material. The reason we have all loved and watched the Rocky movies (and the first two Creed movies) was that they had heart and soul that punched you in the gut and made you feel yet lifted you up and made you want to shadowbox in the movie theater. This movie did none of that, it tried but it did not deliver. And i cannot get behind this movie when there is absolutely no mention of Rocky at all even though he is the one who got Creed to where he is in this film. They should have just made a boxing movie completely separate from the world that Stallone created and with no character names from his scripts and it would still be a dumpster fire but it would have at least earned an extra star from me.
This show is great and should be bigger than it is, i think Apple doesn't do a well enough job at marketing it right. Yes the show highlights all the good and bad stereotypes of Mexican and US 80's stereotypes but that's the point and part of the humor as they are obviously so over the top that it is funny. As it's a Gen Xer obviously embellishing his story of how things were to his Gen Z nephew. The story though is fun, light, and heartwarming as well and hits all the right nostalgia notes for anyone that grew up in the 80's. You connect with the characters and can't help but like all of them, even the ones that you are supposed to not like. The actors are all great and at the end of each episode you want more.
