I enjoyed this forgotten 6 episode sitcom because of the cast, chemistry, and the different path it took. Tim and Geoffrey added a different nuance for their characters. Where Conway and Knots had their cowardly and blundering shtick; Lewis and Thomerson conveyed a bit of menace along with their chemistry of comedy. The plots focused less on the orphans and more on the rest of the cast. I never cared for the movies (APPLE DUMPLING GANG and sequels). I only saw 3 episodes, but I am looking for the whole series on some format to watch and covet. There are several very short TV shows (LEG MEN) forgotten by the world, but cherished by me. Barry Van Dyke and Janis Paige helped to make this show memorable! On the IMDb site very little information is found. On WIKIPEDIA the show is barely mentioned. I do remain hopeful that all 6 episodes will see the light of day in some delivery system.
Just for your information the plot is lifted from the RKO film WALKING ON AIR with Gene Raymond and Ann Southern from 1936. I liked both versions. Cheech recaptured the charisma and talent of his stand up routine. Emma showed more than just a beautiful ornamental piece of furniture. Though low budget the Australian setting was refreshing and I always enjoy the opposites attract 'cute' meet. Like the more contemporary SHE'S OUT OF YOUR LEAGUE or the very under rated THE BIRDS AND THE BEES with George Gobel and Mitzi Gaynor the physical mismatch of ugly guy and pretty girl regardless of the machinations contrived by the plot never fails to bring a smile of satisfaction for me.
For me it was a good movie. A realistic look through at least 4 perspectives of marriage, relations. divorce. custody, court issues. infidelity, adultery, jealousy, bureaucratic mistakes, red tape, and and human foibles involved in out of control hormones and personal agendas. I know those are a lot of issues jammed into a low budget straight for DVD movie. It uses racial disparity to show that these topics are not limited to just one narrow spectrum. The film starts off with a woman's criteria (passed from her mother) of a man's worth as a husband - a job, a car, and a home. The second story line concerns a Latino mother with 3 kids having an affair (her husband is in prison). Third storyline is a successful business man finds his wife cheating on him. the fourth plot line is the divorce judge having a clandestine tryst with his clerk. The characters are a racially mixed batch which is good representation of the demographic of L.A. IMDb does not have very many details about this production. It reminds me of the gradual tone of the movie WAR OF THE ROSES. It started like a typical low brow comedy with sex driven parodies but with character development and the down to earth casting of mostly unknown but realistic looking actors it seemed to have a documentary feel that impressed me.
