At first glance, it might seem like a rehashing of the same old "troublemaker kids try to outsmart authority" trope. But trust me, this show has a distinctive charm that sets it apart from its contemporaries. The characters are well-developed and relatable, with each one bringing their unique personality to the table. From the sarcadtic goth girlto the tech savy genius twins, the cast is diverse dealing with slice of life with kids who are considered outcasts/ odd ones in their rigid school. Who wasn't a bit of a rebel back as a kid?
There's more to this series than meets the eye.
It's a matter of understanding one another, it has some quirky moments and bits of coming of age.
Contrary, to what some naysayers have accused "Detention" of being a ripoff of Disney's popular "Recess" series. But I'm here to tell you that's simply not true. While both shows deal with kids navigating the challenges of middle school, "Detention" has a distinctly different tone and style.
It's a shame this series doesn't get more recognition, as it stands as one of the most uproariously funny and creatively executed cartoons of the 1990s.
