  • Scariest movie I've seen in a long time.

This movie really struck a cord with me in such a strong and terrifying way. Oftentimes the scariest things in life, especially as a woman, aren't ghosts and goblins and demons. Its a crazy world out there, trying to navigate dating and relationships, all while knowing things like this have happened and continue to happen. I loved the pacing of this movie (unlike some of the other reviewers). It started out as a bit of a slow burn and bounced around through different events. It took you on a ride that you almost didn't want to be part of but needed to see. I've seen a lot of supposed horror movies but this was truly a scary, real life story. It left me feeling very emotional and wowed. It's not a fast-paced thriller or a slasher flick. It's a story of a real life monster, his victims, and the women fortunate enough to have escaped his clutches - all set in a time period where most women had almost no voice. I'm really looking forward to seeing what Anna Kendrick does next.

  • Boring...

When you leave the room and don't bother to pause the movie... Yeah, it was like that for me. The opening scene at the cabin was great - the way they showed the movie title made me laugh in the best way! I thought that the rest of the movie would follow along but the moment we got into the apartment building I stopped caring. The characters were all super uninteresting - no one got fleshed out enough to care about at all. Just a bunch of stupid people and way too many kids running around manic for the rest of the movie. There were parts that seemed like they were meant to be funny but it all just seemed so heavy handed and forced that I found myself rolling my eyes instead of laughing. I really liked the original Evil Dead and the remake but this just lacked feeling - kind of like the Star Wars sequels. Just a cash grab. If you're in the mood for over the top cg gore with no story or character development, I think you'll enjoy this one. Nothing wrong with that. It just wasn't for me.

  • Been there, done that

Unfortunately the very end was the only good part of this film for me and I'm not sure it was worth the watch to get there. The acting in this was subpar for the most part (although I always enjoy seeing Dennis Hopper) as were the cookie cutter characters doing stupid things. The "music" scenes were way too long and felt so out of place that they really took me out of the movie. The idea is always a good one - strangers waking up in a strange place for some unknown reason - but this one lacked any real "shock" or "wow" factor to make it special (other than a blip at the end). I love this genre of movie so I've seen quite a few that were similar and they all did it better.
