A tremendous TV movie that should have been made for the large screens, but Samuel Le Bihan seems to have deserted the movie industry since a while now, he only works for TV one. Here he is awesome in this lonesome sailor role, inspired from actual events. It is not as powerful, jawdropping as ALL IS LOST, starring Robert Redford, from 2013, a true tour de force for a daring subject. Here, the story proposes more or less the same plot and atmosphere. It looks like Robinson Crusoe on a small boat, in the middle of the ocean. Samuel Le Bihan ws deeply involved in this role.
I have always been fond of this tremendous and exceptional adventure flick, my avourite from director John Farrow and offering a terrific character for John Wayne as a German officer in 1939, though not a Nazi. The Lana Turner's presence emphasizes the power of this Warner Bros production. For me the most personal John Farrow film, because he was himself Australian and also was a sailor when he was young - by the way he also made films about ships, even his last movie is dedicated to sea: JOHN PAUL JONES - and I find here some elements that sound familiar with this director. Solid adventure flick. Great laming ending.
Once more, as in several other episodes, there is no crime here, no murder plot, no suspense, just a refreshing little tale for which the ending saves you a delighful twist. That's all. As for MRS BIXBY AND THE COLONEL'S COAT, I repeat, nothing of the usual AH PRESENTS ingredients: poison, murderer on the loose, husband seeking a way to get rid of his wife, but something as efficient and agreeable. You wonder where the story exactly leads and why not?
