We gather a team where most members are mercenaries that do anything for money. Their mission is a really stupid McGuffin. We add a scientist, a corporate tool and a random dad with kids. There is a lot of exposition and most is spent trying to make the mercs seem more human but it comes off as fake and we don't really care. All in all we spend 40 minutes before anything really happens.
After that it is packed with action until the end. All the characters follow the clichéd forms we expect. All the action is over the top and mostly mindless but still entertaining.
In the end this is better than the last two movies but not a rebirth. Not really a story that needed to be told but two hours of decent entertainment that leaves no marks. I didn't care about any character and won't remember any of the plot, but I wasn't bored for the last 2/3 of the film.. apparently that is as good as it gets with action movies right now.

Back to the 60s on Earth in a multiverse variant where science has come a bit further and the Fantastic 4 already exist.
The alternate Earth lowers the stakes for us and though we are given a somewhat contrived origin story we don't really get invested in the characters before the main story kicks off.
I'm guessing the plot uses lots of references from the comic books but if you aren't familiar with those it all feels both childish and contrived but the action and visuals kept me interested. As the movie wrapped up I had spent 2 hours without being bored so as a popcorn movie this scores well, but it has none of the qualities that are needed to make a classic.
If comic book movies want to retain a wide audience they need to invent more and take less from the comics because the comics are way too infantile and don't get me started on the names.

A film about the deliberate dumbing down and control of the populace using information control is perhaps more relevant than ever but Fahrenheit 451 also shows it's age in many parts and the conclusion doesn't feel right to my sensibilities.
Even so it's a story worth knowing and still an effective - though at times glacially paced - film.
The acting is passable. It follows the rather stilted form common at the time but it still conveys the story well and since the characters are supposed to be emotionless and controlled it's also fairly effective.
All in all I would recommend anyone to see it. It's not as impactful as 1984 but still a classic story that should be remembered.
