While this shoe is about high school grads and a rock band, I feel as though as a 41 year old woman, I still fall into a target audience for this one. Now, I say that as a fan of most teenager shows (throughout my life starting with Saved by the Bell and BH90210 as a young one, to Dawson creek and all those heyday of the CW to Outer Banks, Summer I turned Pretty etc recently). But this is fun! It's from the same creator as Outer Banks and has a similar vibe (summer adventure!) without teens being totally out of their depths and in a pirate booty hunt. The cast is good looking without being plucked straight from a magazine. (Sophia is the creators daughter and the hot girl who is also smart forced to grow up too fast and someone kind as well. You know the one).
One other review said something about it being set in 2000. It's not. It's current day just with a revival of good fun rock. Later in the season they mention the return of the band and it totally works.
Do the kids find themselves in situations normal 18 year olds do? Nope. Does every one of them have a huge thing weighing on them. Yep. Is it totally realistic. No. But it is kinda more so than some thanks to how social media actually works. (Minus ya know everyone in the recently formed friend group being superior at just the right thing)
Anyway, like many "teen" shows recently the adults are well cast as well and the perfect amount involved in storylines.
I'm excited for another season and had a ton of fun watching this one. And the songs are actually really fun!

This show should never have been cancelled. It's smart, beautifully cast, well acted, engaging and fun. It's so much better than other shows that get greenlit for 5+ seasons for no reason. When this show came out a decade ago I was so excited to watch it but never did. Then I was so bummed it was only one season I didn't go back to watch it but finally did and so glad I did.
It would have done so much better now but I think they had magic that can't be created with the cast.
I hate that female centered shows are seen as for women. So many people would say oh it's not a show we can watch together. Why? Mad men was male centric, but that's a couples show. It's like it's assumed women can watch shows based on men but men can't watch shows based on women. Ridiculous. Its history. (I heard the same thing about Marvelous Mrs Maisel until men actually did watch it thank you pandemic binges and were like surprised men could enjoy it).
Anyway I digress. It's far more than women's lib. But it is a great example of it. Music is great. Clothes are great. Hairstyles decor. Everything. Definitely a good watch if you can deal with being sad you don't get more.

I'm a big Katie Steven's fan (If you haven't watched The Bold Type, you should) and have long thought she'd be a great go to Hallmark star. I do really wish this was a series and not a 3 parter for a few reasons 1) I just like the idea of it and want more 2) while the first part did a good job of set up I want more back story and yet a slower build up all at the same time 3) I already want more.
The only casting I waant big on in the first part is Jessica Sipros. And nothing against her, I like her, I just think she is too sweet for the role.
My favorite part was when they joked about everyone having the same name as their counterparts. I love when things like that are addressed.
I'm excited to see where it goes.
