It's not the same as netflix's daredevil. Which I already knew when I first read that Disney took over the show, but i still hoped that maybe it wouldnt be too bad. The cinematography is different. First, the colors of the show is a lot more brighter (more typical Disney super hero PG movie). Camera work is different, with a lot of zooming in and zooming out shots which makes the show less serious and kind of goofy. The added music to certain scenes also ruins it.
I loved the dark and grittyness of Netflix's version and to be honest this new Disney version feels far inferior to Netflix's. The show has unfortunately been "disneyfied". The writing, the paceing and dialogue between characters are also weird. I might change my rating as I watch more episodes but so far, first episode is clearly a disappointment. And they better bring Karen and Frank back for more scenes.
Edit: completed the season. It gets better, and the best episodes are towards the end of the show.

This show doesn't deserve the low ratings.
I watched this during halloween season because i was in the mood to watch cozy horror. However, this isn't cozy at all (my own fault because asian horror is never cozy). This show is instead disturbing and depressing.
The tone of the show is incredibly dreading and creepy. There are not many jump scares but the creepiness is slowly built as the show progresses. After the show ended, it stuck with me for a while. I couldn't stop thinking about it, and felt sad especially for one of the main characters named Kiyomi.
Japanese horror movies are the reason why i don't like japanese houses and sliding doors/closet. And i had to stop watching anything japanese related because of how much the show had effected me.

This show is a disappointment.
I wanted to like it, it had a beautiful eerie setting. And reminded me of Grimm/once upon a time. The first episode was okay.
But the further I got into it, the more frustrated I got.
The side plots, the many several irrelevant characters made the show intolerable. I thought Aaron ashmore had a bigger role, but he's "just there". What's the point in bringing these characters in if they are not contributing to the main plot?
I don't care about the main characters at all, I actually sat through each episodes hoping that they would die, especially the sister and the mother.
Cheers.
