I had high expectations waiting for over 3 years for this movie and they were not met while the movie itself was gorgeous and tons of parts were funny and fun. I felt myself bored and not really into the characters except for maybe Marinette and tiki. Like the rest of the reviews; the singing voice was very jarring and took me right out of the movie. Not to mention almost all of Marinette's songs are very slow. The way the company set up this film was that it was a standalone that you could watch it with Someone who doesn't know anything about miraculous because it's a retelling but so much was lost in the retelling. We don't understand the powers the cataclysm at the end seems like it comes out of nowhere. The last huge complaint I have with the movie was the time skips. Everything was just too crunched the story got lost between the montages and musical numbers. I did love marinette's dad. He was so sweet in this. I also loved Allya and nino hilarious. Tiki was my favorite though. Her personality seemed to be very developed. It was so much fun.
If you ever watched Tom and Jerry or the roadrunner and the Wiley Coyote you can see there's a lot of classic cartoon antics and over expressions that are just pure cartoon! Unlike the duo dynamic of many old cartoons, this features a group of friends and even the villains can become friends. It's super upbeat without toxic positivity. My favorite change in this rendition of strawberry shortcake is the pets they take a more starring role and are cuter than ever. I love the overdramatic bold loud storytelling. A really solid short form cartoon for children. Kind of wish they might have a longer episode and go into deeper lore about berry works and the her lucky spoon.
This show spends a lot of it's time Trying to convince children to take out debt. They try to tell kids that if they work hard enough they can be millionaires. Just a bunch of BS. Most of their advice only works if you're already wealthy. Not to mention the acting is cheesy and cringy. The little cartoons or side gags are pretty stupid and cringy as well. It's like an infomercial for children on capitalism. I'd say avoid this show if you can. A lot of the factoids they use to convince you to go into debt come from the '90s and definitely before covid so none of the advice is very useful. The quick cuts they stole from bill neye are the only good thing in this show.
