It certainly kept my interest from start to finish but I (and my wife) struggled to follow the plot. The stuff about going to Hong Kong seemed extraneous, and Bruce Wayne's character was underdeveloped. And it was quite dark. Ledger was great as the crazed Joker. But the first Batman movie was a lot more fun, far less nasty. It keeps your interest, but is it a great work of cinematic art? Nah, not even close. 6 stars a bit low...maybe 6.5 or 7. New Yorker has trenchant review.
I thought it was awful - not up to Scorsese's other work. The whole thing seemed static and boring and De Niro's character unconvincing; Cybill Shepard, robotic. So dull I fast-forwarded through most of it to the "good part" at the end.
Terrific music, and the interviews with artists today are often great...BUT the commentary is often intrusive on the music, which speak for itself. With less blab and more music, I would have given it a 10.
