  • A Xennial's review

I graduated in 1994 and have two older brothers that graduated in 1984 and 1987. I also have three younger brothers that graduated in 2005, 2006, and 2008. I would tell my little brothers what it was like in the 90s just like my older brothers told me about the 80s in high school. It's one of those things I think we all do and I don't think we ever believe the ones that came before. We figure they're exaggerating. I have nephews in school now some are in high school and I had such a blast watching this movie with them. Yes some of it is exaggerated, but not very much. When she walks out for gym class in her gym clothes I didn't even catch it. My nephew started laughing and when Kiernan Shipka says we look like we work at hooters I busted up because that looked normal to me and shouldn't but that's what I grew up in. It's crazy how times change. Anyways this is a really fun movie with great nostalgia for us old heads maybe even more fun to watch with older gen Zs and we had fun speculating about what about their time now will be problematic and outdated in the future. Kiernan Shipka really does a great job at bringing that gen z mentality with snarky quip. It's a good time.

  • No character arc

This movie looks amazing. The colors, the visuals really just pop on the big screen. I really liked the casting of each character except for Pedro Pascal. I really like him and maybe it's Pedro fatigue, but in my opinion he just didn't fit. He also looks so much older than Kirby. The movie is predictable to the point I was calling out what was going to happen before it happened and was never wrong. However I think I could've dealt with all of the issues I had and there's way more, but I want a spoiler free review. My biggest issue was I didn't care about any of them. Anybody could have died in this movie and I would not have cared one bit. I think this is mostly because there is no character arc at all. When the movie begins they are already the fantastic 4 and I just didn't feel any emotional attachment to any of them at all. It's hard to care about a movie where there's a big bad that can destroy the world and you really don't care if they do. Hopefully what comes after this with the fantastic 4 makes my opinion of this movie change drastically, but that isn't the way to make a movie.

  • I told everyone that if this sucked I'm done with the MCU

Not only did it not suck, but it was one of my favorite MCU movies. The team dynamic was fun and didn't feel forced at all. Each member is a damaged broken person. Some were made into weapons by monsters and others just wanted to do good and lost their way. Some may argue with me on this, but this was the humor from phase 1 that sometimes felt forced and really not that funny, but when it did hit I laughed. Florence Pugh is a star that naturally steals scenes, but the others didn't let it happen long. I was happy to see John Walker get redemption, because I thought he was one of the only good things from Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Sam and Bucky were great also, but Walker was done dirty. He killed people so he's ruined never mind the fact the terrorist he killed was part of the group that just killed his friend and American soldier. It's like they forgot Steve Rogers didn't kill anyone. I don't want to say too much more so I don't ruin anything. So if you're like me and you really have not been crazy about any marvel movies in a long time go see this one. It's fun, well written, great cast, great character writing, and entertaining.
