Glenn Howerton has deserved an acting Emmy for a long time now but this might be the episode that finally pushes him over the finish line. Just a truly incredible performance, peak Dennis, pure psycho. Amazingly written, shocking, funny- Always Sunny back in all time form. The characters all seemed a little Flanderized last season but this season they're happily back in their prime.
This doc barely goes into any detail at all about the actual disaster, but rather is a two hour slog detailing the years that led up to it and the interpersonal in-fighting of the Ocean Gate staff. It works aggressively and with no subtlety to craft a villain out of Stockton Rush, which he may well have been, but again this is not the part of the story people are interested in. If you are looking for more information, or just the basic story of the group that went down to the Titanic and didn't come back you will get next to no information on them or their expedition. This doc is overlong and far from interesting.
One of the cleverest shows on tv delivers its stupidest episode. My genuine reaction to watching this was "what the hell is going on".
It's as though it were written as just one stream of consciousness with no thought beyond "whatever happens next is good enough".
They may well have been trying to parody an older format of television broadcast wherein an interstitial program is essentially the bait for some toy commercials- but this is a stretch if correct.
There is very little humour and even less cohesion.
Overall its an aggravating disappointment in a season so long anticipated. Truly deserving of the ire it's received.
