I'm curious to know if many of these ten star reviews were written by AI because I honestly didn't see the masterpiece here. It was good at times. The middle of the movie in particular. But beyond that it was just ok. Great acting. It looked great. Some good music here and there l. But I was hoping for more and it never fully delivered. Central Station and Motorcycle Diaries were far better movies. It makes me want to go back and watch Central Station again because it's been years. I saw it in theaters. I'm Still Here is decent but if you're interested in watching it, I'd recommend seeing it on streaming.
I initially ignored this movie while it was in theaters because I'd been let down by many other Marvel movies. But seeing it now in 2024 I was pleasantly surprised. There's a lot of hate for this film and I think I know why. As a teenager back in the 90's I read comic books constantly. Back then, only geeks liked comic books and not the good kind of geek that's accepted now. We got made fun of but we didn't care. Nowadays comic book movies are a massively popular genre. But as they adapt more and more stories new fans are starting to realize that a lot of comic book characters are pretty cheesy. But cheesy and fun. Go watch some Godzilla movies from the 60's and 70's and you're on the right track. And throw in a whole bunch of soap opera as well. I'm looking at you X-Men. Anyways my point is when series like She-Hulk come out it's clear that modern audiences are not into that side of comic books. I loved the She-Hulk series. It was brilliant. The Marvels wasn't exactly brilliant. But it had enough fun stuff in there to make it enjoyable. Does Brie Larson need to be a better Captain Marvel? Yes for sure. They need to write her character better as well. Monica was ok. Kamala was great. The villain was so forgettable and bad. For people who enjoy the Bill and Ted movies, and Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, there's a lot of great scenes in here. With all it's faults though I can only give it a 6.
