After single handedly resurrecting Pakistani Cinema , Shoaib Mansoor returned again with a film based on a topic that strongly needed discussion i.e RAPE ,the films starts with a disclaimer that this film is based on pure fiction as reality is unbearable ,and i believe this to be true with a subject so taboo and difficult to talk about that its difficult to make a film on that is engaging, but i think that he succeeded in making this kind of film , that do leave a a lot of questions in one's mind.Direction was spot on Mahira Khan and Zarrar Khan did an excellent job along with the supporting cast ,music and songs were rightly placed , the only issue i have got is with the story,it was good but could have been much tighter. These kind of films need to succeed as they serve a purpose and everyone should support it by watching it.
ADHM was neither good nor bad it is an OK film, it lacked the focus in the story department well let me put it plainly it lacked a story overall, this film stood only on the star power and music, Ranbir did an excellent job in his role,Fawad Khan was a scene stealer in his short role, Anushka was better in the second half,Aishwarya Rai was good, the only time it felt to me that this was something of a special work is during Channa Mereya song, the story had so much loopholes and unrealistic scenarios that it becomes unbearable for the viewer to ignore this fact.I like Karan Johar films but he needs to keep a connection with reality in some sublime way.But its much better than the regular Bollywood junk we get to see regularly, but one must keep in mind the fact that this movie was under political pressure to cut some scenes containing Pakistani actors so it might be a factor for the loop holes.
Let me start the review by saying that if this movie was to be judged on the basis of visuals , it comes in par with some of the best internationally ,but some poor casting choices and lame screen play along with novice dialogues it made it a just an OK film , it had the potential to be a bench mark film , the subject of the film was very powerful which deserved a powerful presentation , the film started great but as soon as Mohib Mirza appeared the whole mood of the film was destroyed , Ajab Gul and Saleha Aref were the only two castings that did justice to their roles , Samiya Mumtaz is a good actress but she was not into the character properly, her accent kept changing in the whole film .Overall its good that Pakistan cinema is at least trying to make its own impression and it will improve with time .
