I was amazed how much more intriguing and engaging this series was compared to the original Pacific Rim movie. The purpose of the original movie was gigantic robots fighting gigantic kaiju, and the story was kind of after thoughts. I felt no personal connection to charactors and it was fun but that was that.
This series still has gigantic robots and fighting with kaiju, but that's not the point. The way the young and somewhat naive protagonists try to navigate the post apocalyptic.waste land of Australia reminded me of a good days of Walking Dead, where the rwith unclear intentions, and kaiju themselves have additional mystery.
The strength is good writing: The main charactors are realistic and likeable, and the movies quickly with tight story telling. Some mysteries were half solved and some mysteries are deepened by the end of the first season. After binging all the episodes in one setting, I can hardly wait for the next season.
They lowered the age of the main charactors to be teenagers, and now it looks like a typical shonen manga/anime, but the story is quite adult. I am recommending this to adults viewers who like mystery and adventure, even if they did not see the original Pacific Rim, or not a big fan of Kaiju movies.

Initially I thought it was just good enough to make it binge worthy. But when I watched it again to pick up detail I realized that it was as engrossing ad before and decided to give this full endorsement.
Though the concept of special minority with special power is not new, the execution made this series worth bringing the whole story. The fraud main character made it hard to generate the same kind of enthusiasm as you might feel for, say, Tanjiro from Daemon Slayer. But it makes the characters more complex and interesting, as we follow his change. The animation may not be the best but I watch for the story and not the visual, and it was perfectly acceptable.
There is mystery, suspense, and action to make you want to pay attention to the plot.
It is a tad slow and I wish the theater version trilogy is available for the less patient. But the series do give some depth to characters and it did not drag on, and I recommend it.

I updated the rating to 10, and had to adjust other my favorite movies and series down to make this the absolute highest rating, after seeing the 4th season (except for the last episode).
When I heard season 4 would be better, I did not think that was possible. I stand corrected. I thought season 1 was a little slow, and we should be able to remove something to go faster, but no, there was nothing we can cut. Everything is connected to the future action. If you watch digest, you will miss out why this is a masterpiece.
I knew this was a gigantic puzzle that small potion is revealed little by little to us that we eventually find out the whole picture. This alone makes this the greatest story ever told, manga or novel. I did not expect this emotional season 4, after so much of the mystery is already solved. It asks difficult moral questions, realistic world where you are forced to examine your simplistic idea of right and wrong, justice, humanity, enemy and friends. No other story had everything this show has.
--- This is what I said last time: ------- I am writing this as the season 3 concluded. This is an amazing story. The world where titans attack humans, is a good set up, but it is just a tip of iceberg.
I would binge anime without reading manga or blogs, to fully take advantage of not knowing any great surprises and reverations. I wish I could forget the story and could watch it again!
The first season can be a little slow and uneven. The real problem may be that all 3 protagonists are not very likable. The story will evolve in Season 2 and 3, and I am sure that you will start developing very strong feelings for the other characters than the main 3 people. I am giving it 9 out of 10 because of the first season, that made some people to drop out, and begging them to come back.
